Rowing has been a part of the Olympic programme since the Paris 1900 Games but it wasn’t until Montreal 1976 when women first competed. Rowers compete in alone in singles, or in boats made up of two, four or eight rowers. Eight-person crews have a coxswain, who steers and directs the boat through the race.
At Tokyo 2020, Team GB took 41 rowers to compete and returned home with two medals.
