Navigating The Grey: A practical model for effective decision making

Part 1: What makes difficult decisions, difficult?: Monday 9th October 2023, 9:30am - 12:30pm (Online via Microsoft Teams)

Part 2: The High-Performance Decision Making Model and its practical application: Monday 30th October 2023, 9:30am - 12:30pm (Loughborough)

Location: Blended delivery using face to face contact, Microsoft Teams and The Learning Arena.

What gets in the way of effective decision making in moments of challenge and difficulty? This module will focus on exploring and understanding the internal and external elements influencing these moments, and provide a practical approach to successfully navigate them.

Who should attend?

Our learning and development opportunities are here to support the UK’s National Governing Bodies, UK Sports Institute (UKSI) and our partners to enable our high-performance community to reach its full potential on the Olympic and Paralympic world stage.

This module is for anybody who would like to explore the kinds of ‘grey area’ decisions which they feel uneasy about, or where there is no clear direction to go in, whilst building an understanding of a practical framework to navigate these.

As part of engaging in these modules, all participants will receive access to The Learning Arena, a digital platform which aims to enable and accelerate the connection, sharing and learning of the people in the UK high performance sport community.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this module you will be able to:

  • Understand the kinds of ‘grey area’ decisions that cause people challenge in high performance sport
  • Understand some of the barriers to effective decision making that exist within ourselves, our environment and wider culture
  • Explain the UK Sport High-Performance Decision Making Model
  • Be comfortable to apply the model in practice
  • Be more confident to make ‘grey area’ decisions
