The National Lottery is to create a special one-off Lotto draw to celebrate Team GB’s success in Rio this summer and to thank National Lottery players for supporting our elite athletes as they compete on the world stage.
The one-off Lotto Medal Draw will take place on Saturday 27 August once our athletes have returned to the UK with their medal haul. On top of the chance to win the jackpot, Team GB’s success will be turned directly into more life changing prizes with an additional Lotto prize being paid out for every medal won at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
An additional millionaire (£1M prize) will be created for every gold medal the team wins; a £100K prize will be paid out for every silver medal won; and a £50K prize for every bronze medal. The prize pool will increase as our medal tally goes up with the final prize pool being confirmed at the end of the Games.
Arabella Gilchrist, Head of The National Lottery Brand at Camelot, says: “We want to thank our players for the incredible support they have given our elite athletes over the last four years as they have trained and prepared for this moment. When our athletes triumph in Rio, so do our players! We wish Team GB the very best of luck and look forward to celebrating their success on their return.”
Over £80 million has been raised each year by National Lottery players to help fund elite athletes during the four year build-up to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The additional Lotto prizes on 27 August are to thank our players for the support they have given our athletes by playing National Lottery games. The guaranteed £1m prizes will boost the number of millionaires Lotto has created since October last year, adding to the 160 created by the game so far.
The Lotto Medal Draw prizes on Saturday 27 August will be part of the normal Saturday night Lotto draw that evening, and will be at no extra cost (tickets £2). Lotto players will be entered into the additional Medal Draw automatically, with each ticket carrying a Raffle Number for the Medal Draw. The Lotto jackpot, Millionaire Raffle and all other prize tiers will still be selected and paid out as usual.
