Learning and Development

PLx Monthly - 20for24

Dates: Launching on 26 July 2022 (2 years to Paris 2024)

Monthly session scheduled for the final Tuesday of each month.

Location: Virtual - Microsoft Teams. Recordings of the session will also be made available via The Learning Arena.

PLx Monthly: ‘20for24’ is a showcase of 20 tales from the UK high performance community during the lead-up to Paris 2024.

The aim is to foster collaboration and spark creativity by bringing people together on a regular basis, regardless of job title, to share stories of the incredible work they do in pursuit of performance.

Who should attend?

The sessions are open to any staff member from within a funded UK programme to attend and will be most relevant for people that have a role to further performance delivery (i.e. coaches, practitioners and performance leaders).

Key topics and benefits

This is a deliberate space to share and reflect on key projects undertaken in pursuit of performance and explore current/future performance ‘edges’. The tales may be of big successes, difficult challenges or just the slow chipping away at performance gains over a sustained period of time.

Each session will showcase one story shared by people from within a funded sport and will be facilitated by someone from UK Sport. The topic to be covered will be shared with attendees in advance.

Some stories that have already been shared during the programme include;

  • British Curling - Nigel Holl and Dave Leith from British Curling shared their story of the run in to Beijing 2022, including how they shifted their approach away from the traditional norms of the sport and overcame adversity as they travelled toward China.
  • British Canoeing – members of the Paracanoe programme discussed how their approach to collaboration continues to support world leading performances.
  • British Weightlifting - how have the successes impacted their approach to supporting athletes and how are they continuing to develop their approach as they travel from Tokyo 2020 and Birmingham2022 towards Paris in 2024?

Ideally multiple people from the same programme will be able to attend so that they can discuss their reflections on what they’ve heard and consider any potential developments of their own work together.

We anticipate that you will experience many of the benefits you already associate with PLx, but now on a more regular basis.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the PLx Monthly series, you will have been able to:

  • Share in and celebrate the tangible experiences of your peers from other funded programmes
  • Better appreciate the realities of pursuing performance in other sports and explore potential applications to your own environment
  • Grow your connections across the UK high performance community
  • Contribute to a legacy of 20 stories distilled for future custodians of the high performance community to benefit from
