Job Description
Cambridge University Olympic Gymnastics Club is a university society which welcomes members of all levels of ability, from beginner to experienced gymnasts. As a club, we are committed to foster a welcoming and enjoyable environment for all gymnasts and our coaches, ensuring that all can thrive regardless of their pre-existing ability. We typically have around 50 members training with us but the number attending sessions is normally around 30. We train four times a week but only require a coach for our sessions at the sports centre and Cambridge Gymnastics Academy sessions. Our members can choose which sessions they attend so session numbers and levels vary on a weekly basis. As a club, we compete at a few competitions, although this is not the focus of our training, during our Lent term (January to March). The main ones are BUCS and Varsity, with Varsity being our big competition of the year which most gymnasts get involved in.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Gymnastics Coach to lead and develop our University Gymnastics Club.

Engagement type: Self-employed, Term time only.

Sessions: At least one training session per week (Tuesday evening and/or Sunday morning), subject to mutual availability and club needs.

Job Purpose:
To provide high-quality coaching to students of varying ability, fostering skill development, fitness, and competitive performance in gymnastics while ensuring a safe and inclusive training environment.

Key Responsibilities:
• Plan and deliver engaging and structured [sport] training sessions for students of varying skill levels.
• Provide coaching for all levels, from beginners to competitive athletes.
• Develop individual and team performance strategies, including technical, tactical, and physical conditioning.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols, including risk assessments and injury prevention measures.
• Prepare students for university competitions, BUCS fixtures, Varsity and other relevant events.
• Provide mentorship and motivation to students, fostering a positive and disciplined training culture.
• Maintain equipment and ensure proper usage during training sessions.
• Collaborate with university sports staff and club committee members to align training with club objectives.
• Uphold health and safety, safeguarding and inclusivity standards, ensuring a welcoming environment for all participants.
• Adherence to club policies and procedures
• Stay up to date with coaching best practices and relevant qualifications.

Person Specification:

Essential:
• Recognised gymnastics coaching qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or higher).
• Experience coaching young adults or university-level athletes.
• Experience coaching gymnastics.
• Strong communication, motivational and leadership skills.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations in sports coaching.
• Ability to plan and deliver progressive training programs.
• Commitment to inclusivity and student development

Desirable:
• Experience coaching competitive university teams.
• A track record of increasing participation and retention of members.
• First Aid certifications and Safeguarding qualifications [If applicable or willing to obtain].

What we offer:
• An induction to the role.
• Opportunities for relevant development and training.
• Support you to understand and adhere to relevant club policy.
• A regular point of contact to support you.
• The chance to make a meaningful impact.
