Role Description



Title: Volunteer Case Management Group (CMG) member​

Department: ​Governance

Responsible to: Head of Governance​

Term of Appointment: Three years​

Salary: Voluntary (reasonable ‘out of pocket’ expenses reimbursed & the possibility of certain Sport specific benefits)

Internal: Head of Governance, Safeguarding Manager, Safeguarding Case Manager

External: CMG Volunteers, Statutory Agency staff, Independent Safeguarding Consultant​

Location:

Meetings held either virtually or at Paddle UK Head Office, National Water Sport Centre, Nottingham (or alternative central venue where appropriate).​

Purpose of CMG:

To provide advice, guidance and recommendations in relation to the management of safeguarding concerns, cases and adverse DBS disclosures.

Key Responsibilities:

To attend Case Management meetings at least every two months (up to nine per year and as required regarding CMG decisions).

To provide advice and guidance on safeguarding concerns/cases and adverse DBS Disclosures as part of the CMG through prompt response to electronic communications and attendance at CMG meetings.

To recommend and ratify any actions already taken by British Canoeing’s safeguarding leads as part of the CMG.

To initially assess and agree immediate response through an agreed triage process as part of the CMG.

To identify appropriate ‘routes’ for cases as part of the CMG (e.g., internal/disciplinary action alone or referral to statutory agencies plus internal/disciplinary action).

To ascertain the level (from local to national) at which the organisation will deal with the concern as part of the CMG.

To consider the need for temporary/interim suspension orders as part of the CMG.

To support effective review of the progress of safeguarding cases.

To support identification and communication of learning from cases.



Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

Group members shall be expected to have skills in the following areas;


Current or previous knowledge of safeguarding and child protection management achieved from statutory agency, legal, education, health service or other relevant experience.​

OR​

Knowledge and experience of Paddlesport Centre or Club management and/or paddlesport at grass roots level.

OR

Paddle UK recognised coaching/technical qualification and proven experience of teaching paddlesport skills to all ages, and levels of abilities.

Significant knowledge and experience or interest in the safeguarding of children, young people and adults in the sport or voluntary sector.

Understanding of the statutory context in which sport’s National Governing Bodies (NGBs) operate and the provision of activities for children, young people and adults.

Ability to interpret and resolve complex and sometimes conflicting information around concerns received by the CMG.

Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely in oral and written form.

Diplomacy.

The ability to demonstrate a high level of confidentiality.

Child and young person focussed.

Able to deal in a helpful, friendly and professional way with a wide range of people.

Able to respond positively to a challenge.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess and balance risks and be willing to back their own judgment.

Flexible, and a team player.

A highly developed sense of personal integrity, independence, and confidentiality are essential.
