Location: This role is voluntary and can be delivered largely remotely, although site visits to Plas y Brenin, Capel Curig, Conwy LL24 0ET for board meetings are encouraged.

Job Description: Join the Board of Trustees of The Mountain Training Trust, the charitable organisation that operates Plas y Brenin, the National Outdoor Centre.

We are seeking an individual with a legal background, who is passionate about the outdoors, to join our Board and help guide the development of this unique centre. Successful candidates will become part of a collaborative team of volunteers, supporting our mission and ensuring long-term impact.

We’re looking for a trustee with a legal governance or senior leadership history, who ideally is legally qualified and has charity experience. We would also consider other strong candidates with experience across the following areas:

- Charity law issues in regard to compliance with objects, public benefit, protection of assets, and compliance with Charity Commission guidance.

- Governance issues, compliance with the Articles of Association, dealing with conflicts of interest and ethical concerns.

- Commercial contract support (including property) and advising our trading entity, Mountain Training Ltd.

- Regulatory compliance and risk management, ensuring (with others) that a functioning framework exists for compliance with employment, health and safety, contract, consumer, and safeguarding regulations.

- Ensuring (with others) that there is an adequate framework of internal policies and procedures e.g., to cover conflicts of interest, safeguarding, social media use.

In addition to the above, this role is an active member of the MTT board, so experience of participation at NED, trustee, board, or leadership level would be advantageous.
