Job Description
Based in Manchester, this permanent role is available full-time or on a reduced-hours basis, with a minimum commitment of 0.6 FTE. You will provide comprehensive medical care across Manchester City Women’s First Team and Girls’ Academy, with a particular focus on supporting the First Team. You will help players access high-quality assessment, treatment and recovery pathways, while contributing to the medical standards, wellbeing and performance of the wider football programme.

Who We Are
Manchester City Women is a team driven by ambition, belief and a desire to keep pushing the game forward. Founded in 1988 and relaunched in 2014, we have grown into a consistent force in the women’s game, competing at the highest level in the UK and Europe. Progress, performance and pride sit at the heart of everything we do. With Mancunian roots and a global outlook, we are shaped by our Fans and driven by a long-term vision, from developing future talent to supporting the communities we call home. Together, we are building what comes next, the City way.

Within our Performance Services department, we support the health, wellbeing and performance of Manchester City Women players across the first team and Girls Academy. Working as part of a collaborative medical and sports science environment, we help create the conditions for players to develop, perform and sustain their careers.

The Role
You will provide medical care for first-team players and Girls Academy players aged 8 to 19, leading on the assessment, investigation, treatment and management of injury and illness. You will also support required medical assessments, screening and profiling, contribute to pre-signing medicals, and provide pitch-side cover at home and away fixtures, including international competitions where required.

You will be a proactive member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to diagnosis, treatment planning and return-to-play decisions. The role will lead the illness audit and help develop prevention strategies, education resources and timely communication plans, while also supporting player wellness and appropriate referral for mental health concerns.

You will establish and lead Emergency Medical Action Plans across training, match and travel environments, including for the Academy, and help maintain high standards of clinical governance. By working closely with performance staff, coaches, players, external consultants and football leadership, you will support regulatory compliance, clear communication and an effective medical service across the programme.

What You’ll Bring
Full registration with the General Medical Council.
Currently on the GMC specialist register for Sport and Exercise Medicine, General Practice or any other relevant medical speciality.
Membership (MFSEM) or Fellowship (FFSEM) of Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine.
Advanced capability in clinical examination, functional assessment, musculoskeletal imaging and the medical management of injury and illness in high-performance sport.
Experience delivering medical services to high-performance athletes.
Experience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team in high-performance sport.
Experience supporting young adults in an elite sporting environment.
Ability to reflect on clinical practice, adapt when needed and communicate with care. Strong integrity, humility and professionalism. Contribute effectively to clinical governance and compliance with relevant regulations.

Why Choose Us
Working at Manchester City Women means being supported to do your best, with the flexibility and encouragement to look after your wellbeing. We are committed to helping our people learn, grow and thrive in a culture built on collaboration, openness and hard work.

As part of our team, you will receive 26 days’ annual leave plus a day off for your birthday, private healthcare and dental cover, and an annual discretionary bonus. You will also have access to a Health Cash Plan, Employee Assistance Programme with 24/7 GP support, and a company pension and life assurance.

Manchester-based employees also benefit from free on-site parking, complimentary breakfast and lunch, and access to a range of sports and leisure clubs.

You can enjoy a range of additional benefits, including cycle to work, Give As You Earn, discounted match tickets, savings in the City Store, a free City+ subscription, stadium tour discounts, and wider retail and lifestyle offers.
