Job Description
British Olympic Association and Team GB
Team GB is the British and Northern Irish Olympic team – one of the nation’s most successful teams and one of its favourite brands. Run by the British Olympic Association (BOA), Team GB competes at the Olympic and Olympic Winter Games (OWG) and other events such as the European Games (EG), Youth Olympic Games (YOG), and European Youth Olympic Festivals (EYOF).

The BOA’s primary purpose is to:
• Select, lead and manage Team GB at Olympic and Olympic Winter Games and all International Olympic Committee (IOC) and European Olympic Committee (EOC) accredited events such as Youth Olympic Games, European Youth Olympic Festivals and the European Games, and;
• Develop the Olympic Movement and promote the principles and values of Olympism in our territory of responsibility.

The Role
Reporting to:
BOA Head of Performance Services (HoPS) during the Preparation phase and then Chef de Mission Team during Games Time.

Direct reports:
Team GB Deputy Chief Physiotherapist and Team GB HQ Physiotherapists deployed across the Team GB LA2028 footprint

Dates Active in Role:
• Olympic Games run 14th to 30th July 2028, final travel dates tbc.
• Availability to cover European Games in Istanbul, Türkiye (16th June – 27th June 2027) and /or EYOF, Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy (late July 2027).
• All dates / requirements essential for preparation in the build up to deployment to the Olympic Games

Hours of Work:
Working hours will be as required to fulfil the role and its significant fluctuating demands throughout the Olympic Games.
The post-holder will be required to acknowledge this and work in a flexible manner to accommodate all requests where appropriate.

Relationships & Interfaces:
Works closely with BOA & LA2028 Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Team GB LA28 Performance Service Leads, BOA sport services department, and HQ and NGB staff at Games-time including all team leaders, performance & support staff.

Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and lead a high-quality physiotherapy support service during the preparation & competition phase of the LA28 Olympic Games so that every athlete is empowered to thrive and reach their full potential at Games-time.
• Work closely with the BOA HoPS, BOA CMO, Chef de Mission team, and BOA Sport team in the detailed planning for 18 months in advance of the Olympic Games, including the use of programme planning software to ensure the seamless execution of a world-class physiotherapy service for Team GB.
• Establish and build relations with the LA2028 Organising Committee and IOC Physiotherapy structures, and work with the Team GB CMO to cascade all relevant information down to both HQ and NGB Physiotherapists.
• Sit on the Team GB LA2028 Performance Services Leadership Group and participate in regular meetings (in-person &/or via Teams) offering constructive opinion and support for the overall delivery of performance services across the Team GB LA2028 footprint.
• Work with the BOA HoPS to recruit a diverse team of HQ Physiotherapists to be deployed across the Team GB LA2028 footprint.
• Ensure best-practice Governance is adhered to across all Team GB HQ and NGB practitioners including qualification standards, professional registration, enhanced indemnity cover, and clinical record keeping.
• Collate and refine a list of all necessary physiotherapy and medical consumables and equipment required by the HQ clinical team at The Games, and assist in the ordering, packing, customs declaration, freighting, and regular stock-taking of all items both before, during, and after the Games.
• Provide a responsive, accessible Physiotherapy support service to all Team GB delegates, both in the Village, at competition and training venues, and any other location deemed appropriate to meet the requirements of the job role.
• Ensure a high standard of health promotion & preventative care collaborating with the athletes’ support staff (medical officers, physiotherapists, team leaders, coaching staff and others), including proactive advice on the prevention of injury and illness.
• Model high-performance behaviours and lead by example with optimal health and hygiene strategies to minimise the spread of illness across the Team GB delegation.
• Liaise with other clinical personnel, sports science and other performance support staff as required to ensure the highest standard and continuity of care of an athlete's injury or illness, including optimising rehabilitation and management whilst always working within the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP) guidelines on patient confidentiality.
• Refer to appropriate specialists and other members of the medical and clinical support team as required in the lead-up to, and during the Games.
• Keep detailed, confidential, and secure physiotherapy records of all consultations on PDMS.
• Provide reports on Physiotherapy activity within the village or other locations as required across both HQ and NGB practitioners.
• Undertake any other reasonable tasks to support the wider operational delivery of Team GB at Games-time
• Promote drug-free sport and have a working knowledge of The World Antidoping Code.

Essential Qualifications / Experience:
1. Completed a recognised undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy (BSc or the equivalent).
2. Completed a recognised postgraduate course of study (MSc or equivalent) in Sport and Exercise Medicine or advanced musculoskeletal practice.
3. Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) with enhanced Professional Indemnity Insurance cover.
4. Registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).
5. Current up-to-date Advanced Trauma and Life Support course.
6. Current UKAD “Introduction to Clean Sport” Certificate.
7. Currently working with or has worked with elite sport athletes for a minimum of 10 years either through a Home Country Sports Institute (HCSI) appointment or directly with a National Governing Body (NGB).
8. Proven extensive leadership experience as a physiotherapist working in sport.

Desired Experience:
9. Current or previous Lead Physiotherapist within the HCSI network or directly with an NGB.
10. Previous experience leading at a major multi-sport Games (OG’s; CWG; WUG; EG)
11. Previous work with Team GB at a major multi-sport Games (OG, OWG, EG, YOG)
12. An understanding of the Team GB standard operating procedures during Games-time
