Aspire To Lead

A development programme for ethnically diverse aspiring leaders

We, at UK Sport, want outstanding people and leaders to work in the Olympic and Paralympic community that reflect the diversity of our society. But representation of ethnically diverse leaders in sport is far too low.

The latest Perrett Laver report (2020) found that the proportion of board members from ethnically diverse backgrounds was less than half the national average (7.9% vs 18%).

We're committed to making a change. That's why we're launching a development programme for aspiring leaders from Black, Asian and other ethnically diverse backgrounds.

Our aim with this leadership programme is to put participants on a trajectory towards a senior position within sport. We'll equip them with critical leadership knowledge and skills, such as how to think strategically, influence and challenge successfully. We'll open up access to opportunities by providing stretch experiences, increasing their visibility and providing support to build their network.

This will be a very practical programme including both face-to-face and virtual experiences, and they will be supported through personalised 121 support. They will be part of a community of peers, each having the opportunity to become a future role model to others.

The programme is fully funded by UK Sport and even if an initial application is unsuccessful this time, we'll still offer some career guidance.

Priority will be given to people employed by organisations funded by UK Sport. If places are not filled by people from these organisations then applications will be considered from people from ethically diverse backgrounds in the wider sporting community.
