Sally has spent her entire career working in sport and joined UK Sport as CEO in September 2019, having held the same position at England and GB Hockey for the previous 10 years.
Since joining UK Sport Sally has helped to guide Olympic and Paralympic sport through an unprecedented period; helping sports to successfully navigate through two rescheduled Olympic and Paralympic Games against a backdrop of a global pandemic, whilst also leading the organisation to secure increased financial support from Government for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic cycle. Under Sally’s leadership, in 2021 UK Sport created and launched a new ten-year strategic plan to further harness the power and platform of high-performance sport; creating inspiring sporting moments on the biggest sporting stages, whilst continuing to keep winning and winning well, create a thriving sporting system domestically and internationally and connecting with communities on the issues where sport can credibly affect and inspire positive change.
During her time in hockey, Sally oversaw a golden era for the sport, with highlights including the Team GB women securing their first ever Olympic title at the Rio 2016 Games, the men’s team finishing in fourth place at London 2012, their best Olympic Games finish in a quarter of a century, the successful hosting of the Women’s Hockey World Cup in London in 2018 and a huge increase in participation in the sport since London 2012.
Prior to joining UK Sport Sally also held NED positions at the English Institute of Sport and the Youth Sport Trust.
