UK Sport works in partnership to lead sport in the UK to world class success. To ensure sporting success on the world stage, the UK’s elite athletes need to be supported by qualified and innovative support personnel.

In essence, UK Sport is committed to continually progressing a robust high performance system, led by ‘World Class People’. A number of highly tailored and individual development programmes are firmly established; others have been more recently formed to meet ever changing needs and demands; others still may be initiated based on our continual mapping of the sporting landscape.

However, although the aims and objectives of individual programmes will vary significantly, they share a common goal in ensuring the UK is best placed to meet the demanding needs of a global high performance sporting environment by training, coaching, developing and nurturing home grown expertise. Furthermore, by offering bespoke and world leading learning and development programmes we hope to retain the highest calibre individuals in the system.

A variety of unique and tailored people development programmes are delivered throughout the year; designed to unlock the potential of skilled people to play a key role in the future of the UK’s high performance sports system.

Programmes include Elite Coach, Elite Coach Apprentice Scheme, IDEALS (International Development through Excellence and Leadership), Event Management, Performance Lifestyle, World Class Performance Conference, Women and Leadership Development and the International Leadership Programme.

As a result, over 100 individuals will take part in and benefit from UK Sport development programmes annually. A wide variety of participants are involved from university students and aspiring high performance coaches, to National Governing Body employees and volunteers looking for their next development opportunity.
