Publication Scheme 2009
SubscribeThe Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) came into force on 1 January 2005 and gives a general right of access to all types of recorded information held by public authorities, sets out exemptions from that right and places a number of obligations on public authorities. UK Sport is a public authority under the FOIA. (The Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR) came into force on 1 January 2005, and UK Sport may also be subject to requests for information under this Act.)
As well as this general right of access, the Act places public authorities under certain obligations. Under s19 of the Act public authorities must adopt and maintain a publication scheme setting out all the information that they will publish and make available on request in accordance with the Act.
As a result of the Publication Scheme Development and Maintenance Initiative the Information Commissioner has introduced a model publication scheme that all public sector organisations should have adopted by 1 January 2009.
