UK Sport’s Research and Innovation work will always have to largely remain under wraps. Innovation is a world where it pays to be secretive because any advances in technology or technique could make the difference between ‘the best’ and ‘the rest’.
The performance advantage of an innovative approach to training, technique and equipment is well illustrated. The history of sporting triumphs is full of examples where one new idea or adjustment has projected an event onto a different plane of achievement. Dick Fosbury in the high jump and Graham Obree in cycling are two of the more well known examples. Now it’s time for Britain’s scientists, inventors and even ‘garage innovators’ to step forward and share in the glory.
This is the master plan for the UK Sport Research and Innovation team, who work to deliver performance solutions by building networks to encourage the generation of novel ideas and methods. They hope to reach out to people across the board with a passion for innovation in elite sport, from the highest level of expertise within their ‘Innovation Partner’ network to amateur enthusiasts and students through the ‘Ideas 4 Innovation’ programme.
See the links below for more information on the ways in which the team are driving innovation in elite sport.
