UK Sport has today re-launched its website to further boost its expanding e-communications offerings. The new site provides a better insight than ever before into the world of high-performance sport, and the work UK Sport is doing to ensure British athletes reach the starting line in 2012 in the best possible shape.
The site, available at www.uksport.gov.uk, was redeveloped to reflect user data built up over the past four years during which time visitor numbers have increased by 50% and page views by 100%.
“In 2009 we had an average of over 80,000 unique visitors to the site each month, between them viewing a total of more than five million pages,” said Russ Langley, Head of Communications at UK Sport. “That highlights the importance for us of having a site which is visually appealing, easy to navigate and accessible to as many people as possible. That is why the ability to increase text size and view in text-only is available across the entire site.”
The website forms the centrepiece of an array of e-communications outputs that are now produced by UK Sport. These include the weekly e-newsletter, fortnightly Vodcasts available through UK Sport’s YouTube site, and a Twitter page which provides regular updates on the performance of athletes funded by UK Sport and news alerts from the website.
Langley added: “Over the past 12 months we have gradually broadened out our range of outputs as we seek different ways to engage with our various stakeholder groups. The weekly newsletter continues to go from strength-to-strength with over 22,000 subscribers, and using social media has enabled us to tap into new audiences. We’re hopeful we can further build on this in the run-up to 2012.”
