More than 300 leading practitioners in sport and development will converge on Cape Town, South Africa, from 17–20 November for the 2010 Next Step Sport and Development Conference.
Celebrating what has been a special year for South Africa, Africa and the Sport and Development world, the Next Step 2010 Conference is being organised by SCORE International and will provide practitioners and policy makers with an opportunity to reflect, engage, debate, network and help chart the way forward for the sector. Learning from successes and failures, delegates will engage with issues of sustainability, organisational development, capacity building and partnership.
This will be the fourth Next Step Conference. In 2007 the conference was organised by UK Sport in partnership with the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA) Zone VI and the Namibian government and brought together a wide range of leading partners from the international sport and development community in Windhoek, Namibia. Over 350 delegates worldwide attended the conference which focused on sport’s contribution to the building of a peaceful and better world by empowering young sports leaders to champion the Olympic values of friendship and fair play.
Commenting on the announcement of the 2010 conference Debbie Lye, UK Sport’s International Director, said: “The conference is unique and gives those involved in the Sport and Development sector the opportunity to network with other colleagues from around the world, while at the same time challenging ideas and ways of working. UK Sport look forward to working with SCORE in 2010 and building on the legacy of a successful World Cup.”
