Athletics: European Athletics has announced that British pole vaulter Holly Bleasdale has been voted as the European Athlete of the Month for January. The 2011 European Athletics U23 Championships gold medallist, moved up to second on the world and European all-time list with her mark of 4.87m in the French town of Villeurbane on 21 January. The 20-year-old’s successfully opener to 2012 was voted for by the public, media and a panel of European Athletics experts, alongside Russian high jumper Aleksey Dmitrik, who also scooped the award.
UK Athletics has announced defending World champions Jessica Ennis and Dwain Chambers in a 39-strong squad as part of the Aviva Great Britain & Northern Ireland team for the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey (9-11 March). Mo Farah and Holly Bleasdale will also board the plane to the Turkish capital as the 2012 indoor season reaches its climax.

UK Athletics
Cycling: GB topped the medal table at the final round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup at the Velodrome in London, with five gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
Supported by UK Sport’s Lottery funded Major Events programme, the event hosted 340 riders from 48 nations and 18 trade teams in the four day competition, where teams rode competitively in the Velodrome for the first time.
The Great Britain team stole the show with two world records for Joanna Rowsell, Laura Trott and Dani King in the women’s team pursuit and Victoria Pendleton and Jess Varnish in the team sprint. Joanna Rowsell also won a gold medal in the women’s pursuit on Saturday before the electrifying atmosphere hit another level when Sir Chris Hoy won his second gold medal on Sunday in the men’s sprint following his win in the Keirin.

Diving: The FINA Visa Diving World Cup is underway at the Aquatics Centre on the Olympic Park.
The British team have named 13 athletes, including Synchronised 10m pair Tom Daley and Pete Waterfield and rising star Jack Laugher, who is current Junior World Champion in both the Individual 3m Springboard and Individual 1m Springboard. Tonia Couch, Britain’s most celebrated female diver who placed eighth in the Individual 10m Platform at the Beijing Games and has finished in the top 10 in the last two FINA World Championships, will also feature for GB.
The competition, which is part of the London Prepares series of test events and supported by Visa, UK Sport and British Swimming, will be the first sporting event to be held at the spectacular Aquatics Centre and the 31st test event to be staged by the London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG).
British Swimming
Fencing: The Women’s World Cup Sabre series returns to London this weekend with the England Trophy at Crystal Palace. 133 fencers and 16 teams, including all of the top world seeds, will take to the piste for both individual and team events over three days starting on 24 February.
The event will be the last opportunity to see senior international fencers competing in the UK ahead of London 2012 and a daily pass will cost £5 with a three-day pass for only £10.
British Fencing
Weightlifting: London weightlifter Halil Zorba broke the British senior clean and jerk record – and achieved the Olympic qualifying B standard – at the English Championships at the Oldbury College of Sport near Birmingham The 23-year-old, who trains at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre under coach Keith Morgan, lifted 171kg to beat Andrew Goswell’s 14-year-old record by 1kg in the 77kg bodyweight category.
Coupled with a snatch of 120kg, Zorba attained the Olympic B Standard and gave his hopes of competing in this summer’s London Games a boost.
