Cycling: British Cycling has announced the team of 16 riders who will compete in the final round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics, taking place on 17-19 February at the velodrome in the Olympic Park, London.

A strong British team, including Olympic Gold medallists Sir Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton, Jason Kenny, Ed Clancy and Geraint Thomas, will compete at the Track Cycling World Cup which also doubles as the Olympic Test Event.

Speaking of the team selection, Performance Director Dave Brailsford said: “The World Cup in London has added significance given that it's the first major event to be held at the Olympic venue. We are using the Test Event as a learning opportunity for our Olympic preparations and have selected a full-strength squad accordingly. The riders and staff are looking forward to gaining race experience at the London Velodrome and it’s always fantastic for us to have the support of a sell-out home crowd.”

Full GB Team: Sprint: Matt Crampton (representing Sky Track Cycling), Ross Edgar, Sir Chris Hoy, Jason Kenny, Victoria Pendleton, Jess Varnish. Men’s Endurance: Steven Burke, Ed Clancy, Pete Kennaugh, Ben Swift, Andy Tennant, Geraint Thomas, Women’s Endurance: Wendy Houvenaghel, Dani King, Joanna Rowsell, Laura Trott.

Judo: A seven-strong British team will compete at the 2012 Paris Grand Slam, one of last major events before the Olympic Games, on 4-5 February at Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy.

Sophie Cox, the reigning European bronze medallist, will compete in the -52kg category while fellow British Closed Championships winner Sarah Clark takes to the tatami at -57kg. Karina Bryant, returns to the +78kg category, alongside fellow heavyweight Sarah Adlington who took gold in Sheffield. Ashley McKenzie took bronze at the British Closed and will look for another place on the medal rostrum in the -60kg category. Colin Oates, the reigning European bronze medallist, competes at -66kg while Masters bronze medallist and fellow British Closed Champion Euan Burton returns to the -81kg category.

British Judo’s Performance Operations Manager Karen Roberts said: “The Paris Grand Slam marks the start of the 'home straight' for the Games, it’s a very exciting time for the players themselves but also every member of the BJA who have supported them every step of the way.”

Former world champion Craig Fallon has retired from competition to pursue a coaching career in the Olympic sport. The 29-year-old returned to action a year ago after a post-Beijing exile from judo and moved up to compete in the -66kg category.

The two-time Olympian, who was one of three British men to claim a world title, took gold at the 2011 British Trials and bronze at the Russian European Cup with his last medal coming in July as he won the German European Cup.

He said: “I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my career including my coaches, family, friends and teammates.”

Sailing: British sailors concluded the Miami World Cup regatta with eight medals on Saturday (28 January) including golds for Nick Dempsey, Paul Goodison and the women’s match racing trio of Lucy Macgregor, Annie Lush and Kate Macgregor, with podium spots also going to some of GBR’s developing stars. With two silver medals already secured from the SKUD and Sonar Paralympic teams on Friday (27 January), finals day at the Rolex Miami OCR proved a lucrative one for Skandia Team GBR with six more medals claimed by British crews in four of the Olympic classes.

Women’s Match Racing gold medallist, Annie Lush, said: “It’s a great start to 2012 for us – it doesn’t feel like we’ve sailed particularly well this week but we held it together, pulled off some great results along the way and we’ve learned a huge amount which we’ll take forward into our winter training.

”You can see from the results this week just how tight the fleet has become – everyone is pushing hard so there’s plenty of hard work still ahead of us.”

GB medals: Gold (3): Nick Dempsey (RS:X Men), Paul Goodison (Laser), Lucy Macgregor, Annie Lush and Kate Macgregor (Women’s Match Racing), Silver: (4) Alexandra Rickham and Niki Birrell (SKUD), John Robertson, Hannah Stodel and Steve Thomas (Sonar), Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark (470 Women), Elliot Carney (RS:X Men), Bronze: Sophie Weguelin and Sophie Ainsworth (470 Women)

Wheelchair Tennis: Great Britain’s Peter Norfolk won his fifth Australian Open quad singles title on Saturday (28 January) at Melbourne Park, coming from a set down to beat defending champion and world No. 1 David Wagner of the United States 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

It is Norfolk’s sixth singles Grand Slam title, adding to his first Australian Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships crown in 2004 before the event was classified at Grand Slam level. He has also won the US Open in New York twice.

Australian Open champion, Peter Norfolk, said: "I struggled for a while out there to find my game but I love the pressure of playing in a major final and I knew if I stuck with it, I could find my rhythm.

"I'm absolutely thrilled with my fifth singles title at the Australian Open and I hope I can use this as my base for a very successful 2012."

Norfolk will leave Melbourne having won both the quad singles and quad doubles titles at the same Grand Slam for the first time in his career, having partnered fellow Briton Andy Lapthorne to win the Australian Open quad doubles title on Thursday (26 January).
