Commenting on the announcements made by the British Olympic Association today (8 June) on the selection of ten athletes to Team GB in Modern Pentathlon and Triathlon, UK Sport Chief Executive, Liz Nicholl, said: “Congratulations to the four athletes from Modern Pentathlon and the six athletes from Triathlon who have today been selected to represent Team GB at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
“In Alistair [Brownlee], Helen [Jenkins] and Mhairi [Spence] we have three world champions within this group, a fantastic representation of the talent that is making up Team GB.
“UK Sport has backed these two sports in their Olympic preparations with a combined total of over £11.2million of National Lottery, Exchequer and Team 2012 funding over the London cycle (2009-13). We are confident they will produce some strong performances this summer and we look forward to following their progress.”
