Commenting on the announcements made by the British Olympic Association and British Paralympic Association this week on the selection of 151 athletes from athletics, gymnastics*, men’s basketball, men’s handball, indoor volleyball**, women’s beach volleyball, equestrian, cycling and rowing to Team GB, and six athletes from men’s goalball to ParalympicsGB, UK Sport Chief Executive, Liz Nicholl, said: “Congratulations to the 151 athletes from athletics, gymnastics, men’s basketball, men’s handball, indoor volleyball, women’s beach volleyball, equestrian, cycling and rowing, and to the six athletes from men’s goalball, who have this week been selected to represent Team GB and ParalympicsGB at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“This is an incredibly exciting time, with just three weeks to go until the start of the Olympic Games, Team GB is now complete, with 538 athletes selected to compete at London 2012.
“We at UK Sport wish all of these athletes the very best of luck in their final preparations, proud to have supported Olympic and Paralympic athletes with £313million of National Lottery, Exchequer and Team 2012 funding over the London cycle [2009-13].”
