Commenting on the recent announcements made by the British Olympic Association and British Paralympic Association on the selection of 24 athletes to Team GB and 52 athletes to ParalympicsGB, UK Sport Chief Executive, Liz Nicholl, said: “Congratulations to the athletes from Badminton, Fencing, Taekwondo, Shooting, Wheelchair Basketball and Disability Swimming who have this week been selected to represent Team GB and ParalympicsGB at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“UK Sport has invested over £17 million of National Lottery, Exchequer and Team 2012 funding into these four Olympic sports, and almost £15 million into Disability Swimming and Wheelchair Basketball, over the London cycle [2009-13]. This funding has gone towards ensuring these athletes will be among the best prepared in the world when they compete at London 2012.
“We have no doubt they will do the nation proud this summer and UK Sport wishes them all the very best for their final stages of preparation.”
