Competing in London 2012’s women’s Omnium, Laura Trott has delivered Team GB another Gold medal to continue British Cycling’s dominance on the track.

Trott has already competed as part of the record-breaking women’s team pursuit squad, taking that momentum onto the individual multi-discipline event.

In the Omnium’s first race, the 250m flying lap, Laura beat France’s Clara Sanchez by 0.001 but then only managed to finish 10th in the points race. She made up for this dip in the third event, the elimination race, where Trott sprinted clear of rival Sarah Hammer on the final lap.

Laura placed second fastest in the 3km pursuit, the fourth race, just 0.993 behind Hammer, and went into the final two races just one point behind the American.

In the energy sapping 40 lap Scratch race, the fifth of six, Laura Trott put in a master class of tactical racing to finish third with rival Hammer finishing just ahead in second to deliver a tense wait for the final race as Hammer led by two points.

Laura faced off in the final event, the 500m time trial, against leader Hammer, snatching her second gold of London 2012 in a thrilling conclusion to a captivating event.
