Andrew is an amateur boxer fighting out of Barry, Wales, in the 52kg Flyweight category and is currently ranked number two in AIBA world rankings. Following bronze medals at the 2008 and 2010 European Championships, Selby went on to become the 2011 European Champion and take the silver medal at the 2011 World Championships. Selby defeated Russia’s Georgy Balakshin at the 2011 European Championships to take gold, and in doing so became the first Welshman in 86 years to win the title.
Andrew Selby confirmed his Team GB place by beating England teammate 26-12, Khalid Yafai, in a 3 fight ‘box-off’.
