Baroness Sue Campbell has been named ‘Most Inspiring Innovation Leader’ by NEF: The Innovation Institute for her achievements in the role of Chair at UK Sport.

Receiving the first award of its kind, Baroness Campbell was honoured for the inspiration, innovation and leadership she has demonstrated in her nine years at the helm of UK Sport.

Baroness Campbell received her award from Maggie Philbin, TeenTech CEO and BBC journalist, presenter and broadcaster at the NEF’s ‘Innovisions’ conference on Wednesday 5 December in London.

The Innovation Awards were established this year to recognise and celebrate the very best in UK innovation.  The Awards provide an opportunity for individuals and organisations to celebrate their innovation and gain recognition for the role they play in inspiring and motivating others.

Baroness Sue Campbell said: “I am extremely grateful to have received this award from NEF: The Innovation Institute.

“This has been a truly remarkable year, both for me as an individual and for the entire high performance sports community in the UK, as our dreams were realised in the outstanding performances of our athletes at London 2012.

“It has been an honour to Chair UK Sport at this significant time in history and I have been lucky enough to work with an incredibly dedicated leadership team – and entire staff – who have worked tirelessly hard to build an elite sporting system which is now the envy of the world.”

The winners in all eight categories were decided by a panel of industry experts, influencers and leaders including the award sponsors EMC, BASF: The Chemical Company, and National Grid.

Describing the judging process, CEO of the NEF Professor Sa’ad Medhat said: “The winners were chosen due to their clarity of intended purpose, uniqueness of approach, potential impact, and whether they stimulated and galvanised others. The winners will contribute to a culture of innovation which will help promote sustainable growth in the UK.”
