Subscribe

Andy Probert 22 November 2001

RHODRI MORGAN, the First Minister for Wales, and Minister for Sport Richard Caborn will open the UK’s premier coaching conference on Monday.

The World Class Coaching Conference - "Breaking Barriers - Creating Champions" – will bring together the UK’s leading coaches, sports scientists and sports medicine professionals to gain an insight into the latest developments in coaching in the UK and around the world.

The three-day conference, being staged at the Vale of Glamorgan Hotel, Golf & Country Club, has been organised by the UK Sports Institute, the British Olympic Association, the Sports Council for Wales, Sport England and sports coach UK. All elements of the coaching process will be examined, and leading experts will speak on subjects as diverse as change management, nutrition and supplementation, altitude training, performance analysis, coaching theory and developments in injury prevention and rehabilitation.

It will introduce some of the innovative approaches taken to the development of sports technology, looking at the possible impact of virtual reality and the lessons that can be learnt from sports such as Formula One, plus how to alter training programmes to allow for new technology.

DEIDRE ANDERSON, UK Sports Institute Programme Manager, promised: "This conference will provide an excellent opportunity for coaches from many different sports to learn from one another and share their experiences and knowledge with other top coaches from differing backgrounds."

In addition there will be demonstrations of the latest performance analysis equipment and a computer workshop for coaches and support staff to discover how they can better use information technology to communicate and improve their athletes’ performance.
