ENGLAND'S FIONA Geaves, the second seed, ended compatriot Cassie Campion's winning run in the Women's Las Vegas Squash Open at the weekend. Geaves defeated the defending champion 5-9 9-4 9-6 9-5 in the final.
Geaves' success against Campion - the former world champion and world No1 – continues a recent run of form for the 33-year-old from Gloucester. The world No10 won the Monte Carlo Open last December, before reaching the final of the British National Championships in February. Geaves now travels up the west coast of America to contest the Seattle Open, beginning on May 17. There she will meet reigning world champion Carol Owens in the first round.
Meanwhile Campion, who upset top-seeded compatriot Linda Charman-Smith to reach the Las Vegas final, will be pleased with her week’s work. The Las Vegas Open was only her second event since returning to competitive action in April after a five-month lay-off following back surgery.
ENGLAND'S FORMER European junior champion Adrian Grant scored one of the best wins of his career when he upset Ireland's top seed Derek Ryan to lift the Italian Open Squash title in Brescia.
The Halifax-based 20-year-old overcame his more experienced opponent 15-6 12-15 17-15 14-17 15-13 to claim his fifth PSA Tour title since winning the European junior title in March 1999.
