Governing bodies complete the picture

Subscribe

Matthew Crawcour 16 January 2003

All recognised sports governing bodies in the UK will this week receive a questionnaire from UK Sport designed to provide a toolkit that will enable them to review operations to identify how they might be repositioned or refocused in the future.

The questionnaire has been created by Deloitte and Touche, who have been brought on board by UK Sport to support the Investing in Change project, part of UK Sport’s overall Modernisation Programme. It will provide an up to date picture of the current state of the UK’s sporting bodies and their aspirations for the future.

Already as part of the consultation phase, more than 60 meetings with individuals and focus groups have been held throughout the UK. The responses have been extremely useful in enabling Deloitte & Touche to begin work on developing ideas of possible different operating models for governing bodies, as well as identifying a variety of issues concerning the roles of other organisations in the sporting field, including the Sports Councils.

"All sports governing bodies are being targeted through the electronic questionnaire," explained Julian Critchley, UK Sport’s Modernisation Manager.

"This will enable us to build a comprehensive picture of how British sport is being run. Deloitte & Touche will then develop models that governing bodies can use to help them evolve from where they are today to where they ultimately want to be."

Deloitte & Touche’s final report and outcomes are expected to be available in March and UK Sport is hopeful that the report can be made widely available shortly after that time.

Emails regarding the questionnaire will be sent directly to governing body chief executives. If anyone feels that they should have received a questionnaire but haven’t, then they should e-mail graham.holmes@uksport.gov.uk who will send them a copy to complete. Any queries on the technical aspects of the Questionnaire should be made to Jake Wilson of Deloitte & Touche on 0161 455 6849.
