Who we are

London Marathon Events Limited (LME) organises some of the biggest and best mass participation sports events in the UK including the Virgin Money London Marathon, the Prudential RideLondon festival of cycling, the Vitality London 10,000 and Swim Serpentine.

We are a not-for-profit organisation and any surplus we make is given to the London Marathon Charitable Trust to improve sports and recreation in the UK. The Trust has awarded in excess of £66.5 million to more than 1,200 projects in London and beyond.

About the role

We are looking for an Operations Assistant to work with the operations team to deliver a series of world class running, cycling and swimming events.

Responsibilities will include:
• Supporting the operations management team in the planning and delivery of key aspects of events.
• Key involvement in the operational delivery of the Virgin Money Giving Mini London Marathon and associated events.
• Accurate delivery - meet key deadlines on all project plans and manage resources to time and budget.
• Ensure that operational documents are maintained and updated.
• Production of new event documentation including but not limited to operations manuals, event run sheets, staff briefing documents.
• Working with suppliers to ensure that they efficiently and effectively provide their services whilst staying within budgeted limits.
• Responsible for the medals process at all events. From design sign-off, through ordering, production and delivery to the event venue.
• Responsible for the Participant bag process at all events. From design sign-off, through ordering, production and delivery to the event venue.
• Production of new event documentation including but not limited to operations manuals, event run sheets, staff briefing documents.


About you

You should be someone who enjoys a rewarding challenge and someone who is prepared to go that extra mile whilst helping LME to deliver world class mass participation events.
The ideal candidate will have good organisational skills, impressive attention to detail and be able to prioritise heavy workloads especially around event times. The ability to work under pressure, take direction and learn from senior members of the team are also requirements. Around event times, the expectation on all of us as a team is to work some unsociable hours.

Essential skills
• Confident when communicating with all levels of staff and external contacts and suppliers.
• Competent IT skills with extensive knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
• Stamina, persistence, enthusiasm and being prepared to get your hands dirty – literally!
• Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to find logical solutions.
• Good negotiation and influencing skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work beyond normal office hours and long hours at outdoor events.
• A full UK driving licence is required.
Previous experience
• Experience of production at mass-participation events.
• Ideally educated to degree level.

• Ability to work within a dynamic environment which will include working on-site at events including weekend work
• A desire to learn and develop
• A knowledge of, or interest in, running, cycling or swimming would be a distinct advantage
