Around 330 team members representing men’s and women’s teams from five continents will be coming to Birmingham to take part in the World Wheelchair Basketball Championships at the National Indoor Arena. Twelve men’s teams and 10 women’s teams will be competing with the tournament beginning on 7 July and the finals taking place on 17 July.
This event takes place every four years and will see the best basketball players in the world competing to become the world champions.
The 2010 championships will be the largest and most important wheelchair basketball event before the London Paralympic Games in 2012 and many of these teams will see this as an important trial run in this country before the London 2012 Paralympic Games. In addition there will be a number of supporting events including the IWBF World Congress, the GBWBA National Conference and junior coaching camps
The championships are being organised by the Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Association and Birmingham City Council.
